Very strange, wherever you go in the country it appears that the Lib Dems have something against public toilets. In Kingston they closed them and in Yeovil they are refusing to open them.
I have just sent out this press release on the issue:
Conservatives fight for Yeovil residents
The Conservatives in Yeovil, led by their new Parliamentary candidate Kevin Davis, have launched a petition to have the toilets restored to Yeovil Town centre.
The campaign has been launched following the closure of the Quedam toilets and the Lib Dem Council decision to not have permanent toilets in the town centre.
Kevin Davis said:
“It is crazy for there to be no toilets in a shopping town the size of Yeovil. Some will not need them, but the elderly and those with young children will be put off coming to Yeovil if there are no facilities.”
The town council have announced they intend to find temporary toilets but only keep them for three years. In the meantime they have tried to get the shops to offer their toilets to the public, but the response has been small.
Kevin Davis continued: “ At a cost of some £50,000 you would have thought we could do a bit better than a set of temporary buildings that will be gone in three years.”
The petition for more toilets was started last weekend:
“Shoppers from all across South Somerset were coming to sign the petition at the rate of one a minute. It is pretty clear, when you listen to people, that they are very angry at the way the town council is letting Yeovil down.”

Come back Kevin, you’re needed here in Kingston. The toilets by the Guildhall are an absolute disgrace, with broken windows, paint peeling off the wall, graffiti and filth. And the toilets in central Surbiton have been closed for many months with not much hope of them opening any time soon. I’m talking about the toilets behind the clocktower that has been behind scaffolding for nearly a year, without any work taking place – in case you were wondering!

I fully do not understand. I have just graduated from Reading where ,toilets pop out of the ground at night so people (usually clubbers) have somewhere to go to the toilet. During the day people can use the toilet in the bental centre but after I have been clubbing for 5 hours and drunk 10 pints I am very desperate to go to the toilet. Those dogey toilets down holes somewhere scare me so I would prefer those toilets that come out of the ground. Apprently it cost £50,000 a year to clean up urine because of clubbers. well just get the toilets that pop our of the ground. Simple. unless the toilets cost £50,000? even so will still be worth it because they are cool!
