Blair back in charge

The quote below is from the Mail on Sunday - the link takes you to the story about the book about the the three B’s - Blair, Brown, Balls - and their tortuous relationship.

The irony is that whilst Brown and Milliband were smuggly signing away our Eu opt outs, it appears Brown was unwittingly signing up to Blair becoming his boss again - as EU President. Makes you wonder if Labour wants to abolish the Prime Minister.

Gordon Brown’s rugby day-trip to Paris was overshadowed by a row with the French over whether Tony Blair should become president of Europe. The Prime Minister held a pre-match summit with French president Nicolas Sarkozy amid speculation that Mr Blair is set for a spectacular political comeback. Mr Sarkozy is backing the ex-prime minister to become the first permanent president of the EU, a post created by the controversial new constitutional treaty. While No 10 claims to be “relaxed” about Mr Blair taking on the powerful role, in private officials fear he may re-emerge as a political rival to Mr Brown. But Mr Sarkozy is preparing a trap to force Mr Brown to agree to Mr Blair’s appointment. The French are poised to propose two candidates: Mr Blair and Luxembourg prime minister Jean Claude Juncker, an unashamed Federalist who believes in the creation of a Brussels super-state. Mr Brown would face ridicule if he let such a staunch Europhile take the job and the French hope he may have no option but to back Mr Blair.
