A small break from the politics for this extraordinary story reported in an Indian newspaper.
Around 15 years ago, Selva Kumar a farmer in Sivaganga district of Tamil Nadu, had beaten up two mating dogs in his rice field. Later on in a rage, he had hung them on a tree. A few days later Kumar suffered from a stroke. His hearing and speech were impaired and what is more he was unable to walk.
Selva believes his misfortune is a result of the curse put on him by the canine couple he killed. To atone for his “sin”, Selva Kumar has now married a dog called Selvi. The four-year-old mongrel was found after a long, hard search and Selva Kumar had no hesitation in saying yes.
The “bride” was decked in flowers and an orange sari and the “wedding” took place in a Hindu temple in Tamil Nadu. Some 200 guests attended this wedding and cheered when the new couple exchanged vows.
Selva Kumar hopes he will be cured and the curse will vanish following this wedding. He told reporters that he had tried every treatment avenue, but was not cured. “Only recently, after treatment I have managed to become mobile and that too with a crutch,” he said, adding that he decided to marry a dog on the advice of an astrologer.
During the “wedding” ceremony, his bride got restless and ran away, but she was later restored to him. Selvi the bride was fed a bun to celebrate her wedding.Technorati Tags: Dog wedding
